We support the health care needs of children and young people attending one of Worcestershire's Special Schools.
We support the school so they can care for the whole needs of children and young people. We mostly support them by training and advising school staff. But children can also choose to speak directly with us for support or advice. This can be on their own or with a parent or carer. Each school has a named Special School Nurse. But the nurse is not always based at the school.
We look at the health care needs of your child when they start school. They will give training to school staff. This is so school staff can safely look after your child at school. This will support them to achieve their full potential in both education and wellbeing. The team also provides Health Education to promote healthy lifestyles.
All children should have access to the right services, at the right time. This is to make sure they can reach their full potential. We also work with other agencies. This is to make sure the right professionals are involved for you and your child.
The team lead for special school nursing manages our team. All nurses are registered professionals in either:
We communicate with other professionals and services to make sure children receive the best possible care. This may include contact with a range of health and care professionals such as nurses, doctors, therapists, and specialist services. Please let us know if you do not want us to share information with other services.
We accept referrals from professionals as well as from young people and their families.
Children and young people or parents can arrange to see their Special school nurse by any of the following:
