Other support

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs)

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are common and can be passed on during sex or through sexual contact. Find out about symptoms and treatment on the NHS.uk website.

Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARCs)

NHS Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARCs) are places you can go any time, day or night, if you have experienced sexual assault or abuse. They are there to support you, listen to you, and help you feel safe. In Worcestershire, this service is called The Glade. They support anyone who has been hurt in this way. Everyone is treated with kindness, dignity and respect, no matter your age, gender, identity, background or sexuality.

If you, a friend, or a family member needs advice or wants to contact The Glade, you can call them 0808 178 2058. This number is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Your call will be answered by a specially trained crisis worker. They are there to listen, support you, and explain your options. All crisis workers at The Glade are female.

Emergency contraception

If you have had unprotected sex and are concerned about pregnancy you may need emergency contraception. Emergency Contraception (sometimes known as the “Morning After Pill”) is available free of charge from WISH, your GP and lots of local pharmacies.  It can prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex or if contraception has failed .E.g.: if a condom has split or you have missed a pill.

Pregnancy Advisory Service

If you think you might be pregnant, you should complete a pregnancy test. You can take a pregnancy test from the first day of your missed period. If you are unsure when your period is due, the earliest you should take a test is three weeks after the last time you had unprotected sex. If you are pregnant and want to discuss your options you can speak to staff at any of our sexual health clinics.
